Your route

Melbourne → Great Ocean Road → Warrnambool → Grampians → Murray region → Bendigo → Melbourne

Suggested pacing, not a fixed tour. Check current roads, weather, permits and campsite access, book sites that fit your vehicle and follow your agreed hire conditions.

Day 1–3

Ease onto the Great Ocean Road

Start near the Surf Coast and work west slowly. Choose a coastal base, walk from your campsite and leave space for a lookout rather than stopping at every turn.

Before you go: Allow extra time on winding roads and use suitable parking areas.

Day 4–6

Otways and the western coast

Mix beach time with a forest visit using roads permitted for your van. Stage your drive towards the limestone coast and choose daylight for the scenic stops.

Before you go: Check closures and motorhome access at each stop.

Day 7–9

Warrnambool and nearby towns

Spend a few nights near the western coast. A settled base makes room for short day outings, easy meals and an afternoon without plans.

Before you go: Book your site rather than assuming foreshore parking allows camping.

Day 10–13

Grampians country

Travel inland and choose an accessible base. Match walks to your group and current conditions, with time for local towns and rest days.

Before you go: Use Parks Victoria advice for closures, walking routes and camp access.

Day 14–17

Towards the Murray

Break the northbound drive into comfortable stages before spending a few nights in the river region. Enjoy riverside walks and small-town stops without long daily drives.

Before you go: Never assume a riverbank is an authorised campsite.

Day 18–19

Goldfields country

Return south via a country-town base. Choose a museum, a café and an easy walk, or leave a day free if your group wants to linger.

Before you go: Check parking for vehicle length before entering busy streets.

Day 20–21

Melbourne

Stay within comfortable reach of the return location for the last night. Prepare for handover and allow traffic time on the final drive.

Before you go: Confirm your agreed return time and location.

Make the route yours.
